With the game two weeks ago postponed due to rain and no match scheduled for last weekend, Claygate were thirsting for cricket and their first win of the season.
Saturday’s game against Effingham provided both.
Claygate lost the toss and were put in on a wet wicket and lost two early wickets. But there was a recovery by Sanjeewa (53) and Chris Howe (32) before Sanjeewa was out bringing Tom Sapsed to the wicket. When Howe was out, Claygate were 109-4 but a partnership of 81 between Sapsed (63) and Scott Labacik (20) boosted Claygate to 189, with overs in the bank. Some hard lower-order hitting was also aided by a total of 40 extras enabling CCC to a total of 236 -9 from 45 overs.
In reply, a tight opening spell from Rajindu and Luke Webb kept Effingham to just 7 runs from the first 7 overs. Rajindu ended with figures of 2-18 from 7 overs and Webb 1-8 from 5 overs. Spinner Vikram Phrabahkar then ripped through the middle order with figures of 4-12 from 8 overs and there was one wicket a piece for Milky White, Joel Watkins and Benji Walker. Effingham were bowled out for 115 bringing 20 points home for Claygate.
