Claygate 1st XI kept up the pressure for promotion from the Fullers Surrey Country League Division 3 this weekend with another comprehensive victory ,this time over Englefield Green.

Englefield Green won the toss and elected to bowl first on a green wicket. Jamie Henderson fell early for 10 but Sanjeewa and Ashley Thrope produced a solid partnership to get Claygate over the 100 mark. Thorpe (24) and then Chris Howe (16) fell in quick succession before Tom Sapsed hit a sparkling 45. Sanjeewa was eventually out for a brilliant 112, his second hundred of the season. Claygate ended on 247-6 from 45 overs.

In reply, Rajindu Rodrigo ripped through the top order taking 4 quick wickets to leave Engliefield Green’s reply in tatters. Peter Knight (Milky) and Joel Watkins then joined the party with Milky taking 3 wickets and Joel taking 2 for 4 runs off 4 overs. Vikram Prabharkar snapped up the last wicket as Englefield Green were bowled out for 59.

Another 20 points for Claygate which edges the Recreation Ground side closer to promotion. Next week’s game away at Ewhurst is effectively the biggest game of the season and could go along way to sealing promotion.

Claygate are currently in 2nd place behind Sheen Park , with a 16 point buffer on 3rd place Ewhurst.

The 2nd XI also won and are now in 4th place with an end of season battle in sight!
