Claygate look set to clinch promotion from the Fullers County League 1st XI Division 3 next weekend after a comprehensive victory at Ewhurst on Saturday.
Claygate won the toss and decided to bowl first on a slightly green wicket with some softness on top. Rajindu and Luke Webb set about ripping the top order apart reducing them to 10-6 with Rajindu finishing his spell with taking five wickets for eight from just seven overs.
Ewhurst rallied to build a solid lower order partnership which boosted their score into the sixties. Ed Jones was introduced to the attack and quickly broke the partnership bowling wicket to wicket with good pace. Vikram picked up two wickets and Ed finished the innings by removing the middle stump of their number eleven.
Chasing 77 to win, Claygate lost Dan Walker cheaply, quickly followed by birthday boy Ashley Thorpe, who’s mum and dad had driven all the way from Northampton to unfortunately see their son record his first duck of the season.
Sanjeewa continued his excellent form smashing the Ewhurst attack to all parts of the ground, well supported by Dave Price. Sanjeewa finished 68 not out as Claygate reached their target with ease recording another 20 point victory and now only needing only 10 points from their last two games to secure promotion.
The 2nd XI lost to Long Ditton at The Recreation Ground.
