Claygate’s 1st XI are still searching for their first win of the season after rain forced the abandonment of their game against Hook and Southborough on Saturday.

Batting first, Claygate managed only 108 with new comer Rajindu Rodrgio making 25. The 20 year-old Sri Lanka then took the only Hook and Southborough wicket to fall in just 2 overs of play before the rains came and the game abandoned with the home side on 6 for 1.

In the reverse fixture at home at Dalmore Avenue, on a wet track  Hook and Southborough made slow progress against an effective Claygate attack posting 131 in 41 overs. Dave Page was the most successful Claygate bowler taking 4 wickets, Dillon Woods took two and skipper Chris Lewis also two.

Claygate responded well with Woods making 50 and Damian Ross 44 not out as Claygate reached 102 for 1, again before the rains came. Claygate won on run rate against an adjusted total.

The Sunday 1st‘s also had a successful outing against old-time rivals Bank of England. Lance Mayer was in imperious form making 78, fellow opener Steve Wells knocked 46 and Jake Dear made an unbeaten 64 not out.  Claygate finished on an excellent 254-4 from 35 overs.

In reply, it was Claygate’s Over’s 60 who claimed the honours- every wicket to fall had one of the ‘oldies’ involved.  Nigel Abbott took 3, Dick Murphy 2, Steve Wells two, as well as hanging onto two terrific catches at both slip and gulley. Claygate won by 135 runs.
